The Dell E7240 is packed with the latest Haswell Technology and is one of the first business Ultrabook featuring, 4th Gen Intel Core vPro processors. It comes with Windows 8.1 Pro. It has a technology-forward system that will surely help SMB and IT managers who wants to take the plunge into Windows 8.
The Tri-metal chassis is MIL-STD-801G rated meaning it can survive extreme environments or handling. It is styled largely with durable aluminum, powder-coated base, soft-touch finishes and the silver lid that slightly wraps from side to side offers protection from accidental bumps, knocks or drops and the bottom, screen bezel and wrist rest is made of thick, solid plastic. The E7240 weighs 1.4kg and is 20mm thick making it easy to put in a bag or briefcase.
The Keyboard has embedded number pad, large keys, a half-height FN key row and a full sized number row. The shortcuts on the arrow lets you activate the keyboard backlight and access screen brightness control and four brightness levels. The touchpad is highly sensitive and the physical buttons found beneath it are large and has an audible click when pressed. In addition, there is an HD webcam found above the screen and a fingerprint scanner at the bottom right corner of the wrist rest.
A circle of white light found around the power jack reminds you that the Ultrabook is charging. Also a set of lights on the back of the lid shows power status, battery charge status and disk activity when the Ultrabook is closed. Also, a white LED indicate that the Caps Lock is on, and the status icons can be found in the narrow bezel above the screen.
Display and Communication
The 12.5 inch HD display has a 10-point capacitive touch and has a 1920 x 1080 resolution and the IPS screen which delivers good viewing angles. The wireless connectivity is strong, it supports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac courtesy of Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7260 chipset and mobile broadband (HSPA+) and Bluetooth 4.0 LE.
The E7240 has a wide range of ports despite its slim design. There is a Smart Card slot, three USB3 ports, an SD card reader, a headset jack, a docking port for connecting the E7240 to a workstation, a button to turn Wi-Fi on and off. It has a Gigabit Ethernet port and an HDMI output.
